Positive psychology focuses on ‘what is right with people’ to create a happy, fulfilling and thriving life.

Historically, psychology has focused more on what is ‘wrong’ than what is ‘right’ with people and typically deals with their deficiencies or ‘abnormal’ behaviours, and supports returning them to ‘normal’ behaviour.

Positive psychology is distinct from this. Martin Seligman, the ‘father of positive psychology’ defines positive psychology as the “focus on what is right with people, including happiness, wellbeing, and human strengths.”
